Tenor Timothy Reynolds enjoys performing in a broad range of styles as both soloist and ensemble member, has performed with some of Australia’s premier companies and is principle tenor for Australia’s professional vocal ensemble The Song Company. Timothy specialises in the performance of early music and small ensemble performance, particularly the music of JS Bach, and enjoys exploring and performing modern compositions. Timothy also teaches at Victoria’s selective arts school, the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School.
“But any performance is only as good as its central narrator, Evangelist, and with in-demand tenor Timothy Reynolds we had one of the best. His pure, fluid tone, crisp diction and musicality was impeccable as Bach’s long recitatives with their descriptions from the Gospel, setting the scene and introducing the various characters, move the action along.” Daily Telegraph
“Timothy Reynolds sang the speech-like recitatives of the evangelist role (notionally speaking as the voice of John as witness) with eloquent lightness of tone, piercingly sweet upper notes, and persuasive rhythmic flexibility, while baritone Christopher Richardson intoned the words of Jesus with judicious solemnity and depth.” The Age
“By this time it became apparent that Reynold’s honeyed voice was well suited to the role of the Evangelist. It was animated without being emotive. Articulation was mastered. He mastered the pregnant pause…. Reynold’s control and dynamic variety was on full display in the meandering “weinete bitterlich”.” State of the Art
“Timothy Reynolds is no stranger to the role of Evangelist and gave a peerless performance, starting out with some reserve and bringing an appropriate range of dramatic inflection as the drama unfolded – for the St John Passion is a deeply moving dramatic work. It could be staged and acted, but this would be superfluous; the drama and emotion is entrenched in the music itself.” ClassicMelbourne
“Timothy Reynolds’ focused tenor voice is ideal for the evangelist, clear, even, and every word could be understood; an engaging sense of narration of this dramatic story.” ClassikON
“Timothy Reynolds (tenor) was particularly impressive. [He] exhibited both conviction and sorrow on the loss of his beloved Eurydice” Limelight
“This program featured songs by Dowland, bringing into play the attractive tenor of Timothy Reynolds… [his] pure sound with its subtle vibrato proved the hit of this night” The Age
“Timothy Reynolds is singularly one of the finest tenors in Australia and we are lucky to have him as many Bach projects in Europe would love to have a singer of his quality. His recitative work as Evangelist was astonishing in its clarity and drama and his arioso movements were constantly beautiful.” ClassikON
